Average Calculations
The running average, the starting-average rule for weeks 1–3, subs, and why each shooter is rounded before a team average is added up.
The running average#
Average = total points ÷ games played
This is the Avg column in Shooter Stats. It updates as scores are saved.
Weeks 1–3: the starting average#
Early on, a shooter's handicap average still leans on the average they started with — but only while it is close to what they are actually shooting.
Weeks 1–3, within 3 of their starting average → the starting average counts as one more game Weeks 1–3, 3 or more away → real games only Week 4 on → real games only No games yet → the starting average
Example: started on 26, shot 24 and 25 in their first two games. That is 24.5 — within 3 of 26 — so their average is (26 + 24 + 25) ÷ 3 = 25. Had they shot 20 and 22, that is 21, five away, and their average is just 21.
Good to know
Subs always go on real games only. A sub has no pre-season number worth keeping.
Team average#
Each shooter's average is rounded to a whole number first, then the rounded figures are added up.
Team avg = round(shooter 1) + round(shooter 2) + …
Good to know
Never add first and round once at the end. 20.5 + 20.5 is 42 this way and 41 the other, and the handicap is the difference between two of these.
